The Industry Told Me to Scale - So I Did the opposite

Aug 2, 2025

It was the Summer of 2020, when I challenged a Senior Leader to a hypothetical question.

“If someone’s working 14-hour days, covering a vast region with little support, and constantly tasked with solving issues beyond their remit because they can handle complexity - how long before they wonder if they’d make a bigger impact building something of their own?”

I knew I wouldn't get a truthful answer. I've never had a desire to be my own boss however I believed that there was a different way.

Challenge norms that had been blindly accepted. Push Leaders to be better. Refocus how Value is Perceived. Change the narrative.

It became a strain - emotionally and professionally. Caught between recurring negotiation pain points and institutional unwillingness to adapt. I was labelled by Management as "Constructively Difficult" for wanting to improve.

Then it hit me:

"You can't reshape strategy from inside someone else's framework."

The framework that I set out to change had instead started to shape me. And as I found myself navigating forward while patching leaks below the waterline, it become clear; I needed to find a platform that aligned with my principles - or risk capsizing under the burden of compromise.

That search led me to a platform that, on paper, seemed to share my principles of making a difference. The reality didn't match the promise - a misstep, not a failure.

And like all missteps, it served its purpose.

It reminded me what I stood for.

That principles are non-negotiable.

That clarity, not unwavering obedience, drives meaningful progress.

Clarity around the kind of clients I would represent.

Clarity around the kind of services I was proud to deliver.

Clarity around what I was no longer willing to compromise.

So I moved on - not to escape, but to realign.

I wasn't trying to be a "boss."

I was trying to build something better.

A platform that delivers excellence, not just growth metrics.

A space for clients to make informed risk decisions - not just react to known risks.

A partner that understands risk isn't just about transferring exposure - it's about designing intelligent, timely strategies that support commercial priorities.

Today, I work with leadership teams across Maritime & Specialty Industries who value strategic insight, long-term impact and Independence by Design.

I lead with clarity, deliver with purpose, and measuresuccess by the outcomes we create together.

Because in an Industry that rewards noise and speed - I chose clarity, Independence and deliberate impact.
