It was the Summer of 2020, I asked a defining hypothetical question to a Direct Report:-
"If you had a team member working 14-hour days, and were responsible for a large geographical area and portfolio without the deserved support and was regularly parachuted into complex matters outside oftheir assigned role because of their expertise and ability to navigate complex challenges... wouldn’t that person eventually question whether they could create greater impact by stepping out and building their own platform?"
That question stayed with me.
I never aspired to be my own boss but I believed that a difference could be made, for Clients and for Colleagues.
To challenge norms that had been blindly accepted.
To push Leaders to be better.
To refocus how value is perceived.
To change the narrative.
But it became a strain - emotionally and professionally.
Caught between recurring negotiation pain points and institutional unwillingness to adapt or change.
It suddenly hit me
"You can't reshape strategy from inside someone else's framework."
The framework had started to shape me, not the otherway around.
And as I navigated forward while patching leaks below the waterline, it become clear;
I needed to find a company that aligned with my principles - or risk capsizing under the weight of compromise.
That search led me to a company that, on paper, seemed to share my principles of making a difference.
The reality didn't match the promise - a misstep, not a failure.
And like all missteps, it served its purpose.
It reminded me what I stood for.
That principles are non-negotiable.
That clarity, not obedience, drives meaningful progress.
Clarity around the kind of clients I wanted to represent.
Clarity around the kind of services I was proud to deliver.
Clarity around what I was no longer willing to compromise.
So I moved on - not to escape, but to realign.
I wasn't trying to be a boss.
I was trying to build something better.
A platform that delivers excellence, not growth metrics.
A space where Clients make informed risk decisions, not follow the trend.
A partner that understands risk isn't just about transferring exposure - it's about designing intelligent, timely strategies that support commercial priorities.
Today, I work with leadership teams across Maritime and Specialty industries who value strategic insight, long-term impact and Independence by Design.
I lead with clarity, deliver with purpose, and measure success by the outcomes we create together.
Because in an Industry that rewards noise and speed...
I chose clarity, Independence and deliberate impact.
